Sustainability since 1978
Hoffmann Natural Eyewear strongly champions sustainable concepts – and not just since the “Fridays for Future” demonstrations highlighted sustainability issues and inspired the world to a new environmental awareness. It‘s high time for our world to act! But what about Hoffmann? Here, we have been successfully evolving for over four decades thanks to our sustainable manufacturing practices. Keeping a constant eye on nature and its resources and working to protect them is firmly anchored in Hoffmann Natural Eyewear’s philosophy. And this way of thinking is not new: the principle was already firmly rooted when the company was founded in 1978 and today, over 40 years later, it is still an essential part of the company concept.
Environmentally-friendly raw materials for eyewear
The most important material for our eyewear creations is natural horn, usually the horn of the Asian water buffalo. These animals are revered in their home countries and are very valuable to the people there. Therefore, it is a matter of course that the water buffaloes are not killed for their horn. In addition to natural horn, wood is also used for certain models – a renewable raw material and a natural basis for spectacle frames. Manufacturing by hand also contributes to the positive environmental balance.
For example, our production rooms are both heated and cooled with a geothermal system – an extremely environmentally-fiendly solution. Another, completely different step is our concept for replacing presents for customers with a donation to local charity. Near our premises there is a Wild Bird Sanctuary, where sick or injured birds, bats and even hedgehogs can be brought to be treated and tended before they are returned to the wild. This is a great project and we are proud to support it!
Sustainability in our team
In the 21st century, everyone is talking about sustainability, and the employees of Hoffmann Natural Eyewear also strive to use nature`s valuable treasures as sparingly as possible in their everyday work.
Whether they`re moving towards “paperless office” with the help of new technologies or saving CO2 emissions by carpooling – every small step is valuable and brings us all closer to our goal.
Zero Waste thanks to timeless design and high quality
Zero Waste is a philosophy that strives for sustainability. It means producing as little waste as possible in everyday life as well as the conscious use of raw materials. With this in mind, we aim for the highest quality with every model in our Hoffmann frame collection, so that you can enjoy wearing your glasses for a long time and the raw materials are effectively used in long-life, handcrafted eyewear.
Timeless designs are better than ever-changing fashions: In today’s fast-paced world, one trend follows another. Products are often made and quickly discarded as a “better“ idea finds its way to the market. Classic designs – like so many Hoffmann Natural Eyewear models – don’t ever lose their charm, even after years of wear. Timelessness demands a long life, the best quality and a high degree of versability. In this context, our frames are created with the aim of accompanying you over a long period of time and impressing you with their natural look as well as an unparalleled fit and feel.
